Nintendo GameCube

The GameCube is becoming considered more retro with it now being over 20 years old, as a result, there are now a large amount of rare and expensive GameCube games waiting to be bought and sold on the ever-increasing in price retro gaming market.

Yes, prices are arguably overinflated at the moment, but it just doesn’t show any sign of slowing just yet. If anything, it’s now the disc-based systems of the 2000s to experience the boom the cartridge systems have experienced for the past 20 years!

Check out the top rare and expensive GameCube games that we have collated using data from pricecharting.com in May 2022.

Rare & Expensive GameCube Games

Sonic Heroes & Super Monkey Ball Duo Pack

Complete In Box $4,350 / New $12,615

Sonic Heroes & Super Monkey Ball Duo Pack was released for GameCube in 2005. it is currently the highest valued game on pricecharting.com and is very rare to see even on eBay.

As far as the games themselves go, Sonic Heroes is quite well regarded. it’s the first complete 3D Sonic game since the Dreamcast’s Sonic Adventure 2 which has a story and challenging game modes.

It has two and four-player split-screen options and gameplay is centred around playing as a team. It’s one of the better 3D Sonic games, so if this pack is a bit pricey, maybe pick this up separately!

Super Monkey Ball needs no introduction to GameCube fans. It’s the original and arguably best Monkey Ball game. Sure, it has fewer mini-games than Super Monkey Ball 2, but likely holds more nostalgia for fans of the series.

Pokemon Box [Big Box Version]

Complete In Box $2,544 / New $3,769

Released in 2003, this is a ‘Big Box’ version of Pokemon Box, this is another highly valued GameCube game. Whilst Australia was the only region to get a PAL big box version of the game, the US saw this big box version too, making it a rare game internationally to obtain.

Pokemon Box is a strange one in that it is not really considered a full game, it acts more as a storage utility for trainers Pokemon.

The thing that made this game even rarer and now expensive is the fact it was only made available at the Pokemon Centre in NYC in the US. European customers would be able to purchase the game as part of a GameCube bundle called the Pokemon Colosseum Mega Pak.

Pokemon Box

Complete In Box $1,584 / New $2,406

This is the standard plastic box version of Pokemon Box. Still considered very rare and expensive without the big box, Pokemon Box is one that does not appear on eBay often, at least in the US.

The ‘game’ as mentioned above, acts as a utility for trainers to store their Pokemon. It allows you to store up to 1,500 Pokemon from Pokemon Ruby & Pokemon Sapphire.

The utility allows you to also utilise a Game Boy Advance link cable to transfer Pokemon from their GBA games to Pokemon Box without the need to trade.

Sonic Adventure 2 Pack

Complete In Box $817 / New $1,010

Another ‘2 pack’ for the GameCube, Sonic Adventure 2 Pack includes Sonic Adventure 2 Battle as well as Sonic Adventure DX Directors Cut.

The ‘2 pack’ packages for the GameCube now reach quite frankly silly prices, due to their rarity. If you can bag yourself a complete boxed version, you are looking at being able to sell for upwards of $800.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was quite a revolutionary title when released in 2002 as it was the first time Sonic made an appearance on a Nintendo console, something that just a few years earlier would have been considered impossible!

It is a respectable enough game, an improvement on the first game, but still didn’t please old-school 2D Sonic fans.

Sonic Adventure DX Directors Cut is a port of the 1998 Dreamcast original and is not that well regarded in terms of a port.

It’s glitchy, and not as nice visually as the Dreamcast original. There are some positives, the inclusion of the Sega Game Gear original games is a nice touch, but not enough to make it an essential purchase.

If you can buy the double pack for a low price though, definitely grab hold of it!

Super Monkey Ball 2 Pack

Complete In Box $692 / New $1,499

Released in 2004, the Super Monkey Ball 2 Pack contains the original Super Monkey Ball & Super Monkey Ball 2, but in the ‘Players Choice’ packaging.

This is another one that commands a very high premium, especially if you are able to get hold of a factory-sealed copy, then expect to be able to command around £1,500 for it, or at least attempt to!

The games need to explaining really, they are both GameCube classics. Both games have brilliant main games and Super Monkey Ball 2 has more mini-games, although some people prefer Monkey Flight to the original.

I bought both at the time of release and thoroughly enjoyed them both. If you can get hold of a copy of the Super Monkey Ball 2 Pack for a decent price, I’m sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy the profits potentially available!

Cubivore: Survival Of The Fittest

Complete In Box $661 / New $1,919

A game that isn’t a rare ‘2 Pack’, but rare and expensive in its own right!

Cubivore was released in 2002 in Japan and North America. It is an action-adventure game where you take control of basically a baby animal fighting for your survival.

You essentially eat, survive and evolve further until you die! You can feed on other animals, when you do your character mutates/evolves slightly.

It is a very typical Japanese game of the era, very inventive and unique. The late 90s/early 2000s was prime time for games like this, it’s worth a play on Dolphin, (the best GameCube emulator) if you don’t want to consider buying a US copy as an investment.

Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc Version 14

Complete In Box $657 / New $1,907

Perhaps an unusual choice in a games list, but not when you consider its rarity and value!

The Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc Version 14 is a playable demo disc that is essentially the same as version 15 of this collection but has the mature rated content removed.

This package contains three single-player demos of Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Custom Robo and Sonic Heroes. This disc also contains video trailers for Mega Man Anniversary Collection, I-Ninja, The Sims: Bustin’ Out, Need for Speed: Underground, NFL Street, Custom Robo, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Metroid Zero Mission and Pokemon Colosseum.

Many of these demo discs are rare, but this is more hardest to get hold of, so snap it up if you see one available (at a reasonable price of course!).

Gotcha Force

Complete In Box $570 / New $1,655

A 2004 game, Gotcha Force is a third-person shooter. It’s a rare game to pick up complete, and exceptionally rate to find factory sealed now.

More of a cult classic, Gotcha Force is a battle-type game that places emphasis on a combat system. You start each match by choosing ‘Gotcha Borgs’.

Each of these borgs has its own abilities and powers and uses a set amount of energy when placed into a force. So careful selection is key to success in a match. Essentially, borgs fight until defeated, then the next one is put into the arena to pick up the battle.

it is certainly a game that has its fans but wasn’t widely accepted as a classic. It is also a game that did not receive a large amount of promotion, which has inevitably led to the cult and rare status it now has.

Metroid Prime & Zelda Wind Waker Combo

Complete In Box $569 / New $1,500

Another package of 2 games, which seems to be a popular method of promotion back during this time. This time we have the Metroid Prime & Zela Wind Waker Combo pack.

Both games are absolute classics on the GameCube and any fans probably already have these two purchased separately.

This pack was designed for inclusion in a GameCube bundle that was produced in relatively small numbers and only in the United States.

There’s not a lot more to say about the games as everything is probably already known about them, but if you dig out this specific package complete with the cover art, dance a small celebratory dance!

Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc Version 16

Complete In Box $497 / New $1,443

Another Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc, this time Version 16. This package follows along the usual lines of a few playable demos, then some additional video capture of some forthcoming GameCube games.

Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc Version 16 includes three single-player demos of Custom Robo, WarioWare, Inc. and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

The game videos included with this disc cover Scooby Doo! Mystery Mayhem, Mario Golf: Advance Tour, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames!, Custom Robo, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution, MVP Baseball 2004, Tales of Symphonia, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures.

Go! Go! Hypergrind

Complete In Box $452 / New $872

A 2003 game, Go! Go! Hypergrind is a quirky take on the popular skateboarding genre of the late 90s and 2000s, and quite possibly the rarest and most expensive example of it!

The game revolves around your character auditioning for a part in a new skateboarding cartoon called Go! Go! Hypergrind.

Simply choose your character and aim to impress to pass the audition and get the job! It’s a pretty looking cel-shaded game and actually plays reasonably well. Another decent, but the hugely expensive collectable title!

Disney Sports Basketball

Complete In Box $428 / New $787

You don’t often see many Disney games of the 2000 era being particularly rare or expensive now, but Disney Sports Basketball certainly is an exception. A 2002 sports game by Konami, which received really mixed reviews, but generally is considered not a great game!

It’s essentially an NBA Jam inspired Disney basketball game. Cutesy, but unfortunately, non of the execution and fun of NBA Jam!

What seems to make this one expensive is that it is just simply a rare title now to get hold of in the US. This one is a potential bargain to be had at a yard sale with people not realising quite what they are selling!
