Released in 1981, the ZX81 is the successor to the ZX80 from Sinclair. There is little difference technically speaking between these two systems aside from the build of the machine.
The ZX81 design allowed for a more compact design and robust build, addressing a number of the issues with the original ZX80.
The system was sold until 1984, its successor is the ZX Spectrum, released a couple of years earlier.
